Designers keep on fighting mass production by highlighting the importance of handicraft. Materia Prima, a group exhibition hosted at the Fabbrica del Vapore gallery on the occasion of 2013 Fuorisalone, has been fully dedicated to wood as the main material for design and handicraft, both sharing creativity.
Six designers, Tommaso Bistacchi, Michela Catalano, Cristiano Mino, Iskra Sguera, Jorge Nájera, Alessandro Marelli and Cristian Visentin have joined this exhibition by creating handmade objects like actual woodworkers, paying attention not to waste any material.

Michela Catalano has created Hollow Tree, a multi-purpose case to be hung on the wall, whose shape reminds of a tree trunk. Cristiano Mino, a skilled artisan, has presented Tronco, an armchair carved out of a fir trunk, aimed at displaying wood as pure as possible.
Iskra Sguera has designed Talì, a beechwood table whose legs, available in either yellow or light blue, can be adjusted to fit different spaces.
There was even a solid wood ottoman, EsaDeca by Jorge Nájera, made of sixteen equal legs put together with glue and screws.
Split, by Alessandro Marelli, is a case aimed at highlighting wood beauty and properties. It is available in two variations, both created by using wood not as a raw material but as the core element of creation. Twigs, byCristian Visentin, is a standing coat rack made of several parts puzzled together reminding of the tree structure. This piece of design has been created with the aim of not wasting any material.
36.56 by Tommaso Bistacchi is a wood cabinet featuring oak sliding panels to be put in any corner of the house thanks to its versatility.
